….says ADC going ahead with convention
Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general election, and presidential aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 election, says he will declare a war against insecurity in Nigeria, particularly in the north.
Obi also has urged Nigerians not to vote him because he’s Igbo or Christian, but because he has the capacity to lead the country out of its current political and economic quagmire.
He spoke on the “Prime Time Show” monitored on Arise News on Monday, saying Nigeria is sliding along ethnic and religious lines because of incompetent leaders.
“Do not vote for me because I am Igbo, do not vote for me because I am a Christian, vote for me because I have the capacity to lead Nigeria out of this mess”, says Peter Obi.
Obi said if voted in 2027, he would turn the North into a productive region leveraging vast arable land for massive agriculture.
“Nigeria needs people who are willing to make sacrifices, to rescue Nigeria.” He said there was no time for a transactional coalition, because “There’s nothing to share anymore.
“We are at a time when Nigeria must hire a qualified and competent person to rescue the country and deepen democratic values.
“If we must secure the north today, we need to start investing in agriculture, education, health. Agriculture in the North can generate more revenue than oil”.
On insecurity, he said it started with the erosion of societal values and neglect of the youths, among other factors, adding that “I will declare war against insecurity in the north.”
On the crises rocking opposition parties, Obi blamed the ruling APC, saying nobody would’ve believed that Nigeria would be where we are today in terms of stifling opposition by those who claimed to be democrats.
Obi insisted that INEC’s the withdrawal of recognition of the David Mark-led leadership of the ADC was politically orchestrated by the government.
On the ADC convention slated for Tuesday, April 14, said “We are going ahead with the convention because we believe what INEC did is wrong. I will attend the convention and make sure that it goes well.
He said the flocking to the ADC despite its crisis, because they know that what INEC has done is wrong.
“There’s nothing like having internal problems in ADC, they are orchestrated and controlled by external factors. But we must dismantle this criminality of transactional politics” Obi said.
