Jan. 3 (UPI) — The Republican-controlled Home Homeland Safety Committee mentioned Wednesday it would maintain an impeachment listening to Jan. 10 in opposition to Homeland Safety Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

The committee is alleging Mayorkas has refused to implement the legal guidelines handed by Congress.

In a Wednesday assertion Committee Chair Rep. Mark Green, R-Tenn., claimed its personal investigation “made clear that this disaster finds its foundation in Secretary Mayorkas’ decision-making and refusal to implement the legal guidelines handed by Congress, and that his failure to satisfy his oath of workplace calls for accountability.”

Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., the highest Democrat on the committee, mentioned in an announcement the GOP-led impeachment effort in opposition to Mayorkas is “completely baseless” and “a political stunt with none basis within the Structure.”

Mayorkas mentioned he’s busy engaged on options to the immigration downside and can proceed to take action. He is working with a bipartisan group of senators on border laws.

Asked on MCNBC Wednesday if he’ll cooperate with the Home impeachment investigation and hearings, Mayorkas replied, “I most actually will. And I’ll proceed to do my work as properly.”

Congress and a number of other Republican and Democratic presidential administrations, together with the Trump administration, for many years have didn’t comprehensively deal with migration points alongside the U.S. southern border.

However Home Republicans blame the border disaster on the Biden administration and Mayorkas.

“There’s no valid basis to question Secretary Mayorkas, as senior members of the Home majority have attested, and this excessive impeachment push is a dangerous distraction from our crucial nationwide safety priorities,” DHS spokesperson Mia Ehrenberg mentioned in an announcement Wednesday.

However Inexperienced alleged Mayorkas is responsible of dereliction of responsibility and mentioned in an announcement that interviews with eight U.S. border patrol brokers “reveal Mayorkas’ failure to implement the legal guidelines of america and as a substitute implementing insurance policies which have prompted and perpetuated this immigration disaster.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., mentioned Speaker Mike Johnson assured a Mayorkas impeachment vote in November after the Home referred her articles of impeachment to the committee.

The introduced impeachment of Mayorkas comes as Speaker Mike Johnson and a delegation of dozens of Republican Home members tour the southern border.

They’re blaming the border disaster on the Biden administration whereas blocking further border security funding Biden has requested.
