Gauteng residents can expect partly cloudy conditions this evening, with isolated showers and thundershowers developing in some areas. According to the South African Weather Service, temperatures will remain warm overnight, dropping to around 17°C in Johannesburg.
Weather forecaster Phemelo Zonke said conditions remain unstable.
“We are seeing partly cloudy skies across most parts of the country this evening, with showers and thundershowers mainly over the southern regions,” Zonke said.
While rainfall will not be widespread across Gauteng tonight, some areas could experience brief but intense downpours accompanied by lightning.
Very hot conditions are expected tomorrow in Gauteng
Tomorrow brings hotter weather across the province. Johannesburg is expected to reach a high of about 32°C, while other parts of Gauteng could peak near 30°C. Zonke warned that heat combined with moisture may trigger afternoon thunderstorms.
“Tomorrow, we expect partly cloudy to cloudy conditions, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers developing later in the day,” she said.
The Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning affecting parts of the country, including areas close to Gauteng.
These storms may bring “heavy downpours, strong damaging winds, excessive lightning and small hail,” Zonke warned.
Fire Danger and Extended Outlook
High fire danger conditions remain a concern in nearby regions, particularly where hot and dry conditions persist. Although Gauteng is not the most affected, residents are urged to remain cautious.
Looking ahead to Friday, Zonke said warm to hot conditions will continue.
“We expect isolated showers and thundershowers over parts of the Free State, Gauteng and the interior of KwaZulu-Natal,” she said.
Saturday is expected to remain hot, with scattered showers developing later.
