Indian sprinter Gurindervir Singh became the fastest man in the country’s history after clocking 10.09 seconds in the men’s 100m final at the National Senior Federation Competition in Ranchi on Saturday, May 23.
The 24-year-old Punjab athlete became the first Indian to breach the 10.10-second barrier, reclaiming the national record from Animesh Kujur, who had set a new mark of 10.15 seconds just a day earlier.
Gurindervir had earlier run 10.17 seconds in the semifinals before Kujur bettered it within minutes. The new record timing also helped Gurindervir qualify for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
