With the AirWing expertise put in, Carisbrooke Delivery’s 120-meter-long vessel Vectis Progress has departed from Hull the place the answer was assembled.

The vessel is now on its option to Bilbao, marking the start of a transatlantic journey to Canada to showcase the real-world influence of wind-assisted propulsion, GT Wings stated.

“Each tonne of thrust generated by the wind means much less reliance on the engine and fewer emissions within the air,” stated George Thompson. “Wind propulsion isn’t simply an environmental determination—it’s an financial one. The price of non-compliance is rising, and integrating wind help is a no brainer for forward-thinking shipowners.”

Based on GT Wings, the Air Wing wind propulsion expertise is designed to considerably scale back gas consumption and carbon emissions for business transport, providing a sensible and cost-effective resolution to compliance with tightening laws and decarbonization aims.

The expertise, backed by £3.7 million in funding via the UK Authorities’s Clear Maritime Demonstration Competitors Spherical 4 (CMDC4), goals to scale back emissions within the maritime sector by as much as 30%.

“This journey represents a big step ahead in proving the viability of wind propulsion at scale. The maritime trade faces mounting strain to scale back emissions, and AirWing offers a scalable, retrofit-friendly resolution that may be put in on a variety of vessels,” the corporate acknowledged.
