‘Give him time’ – Cheeseboy defends Nkota’s Bafana struggles

Former Orlando Pirates winger Lebohang “Cheeseboy” Mokoena feels Bafana Bafana star Mohau Nkota deserves another chance at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The speedy winger has not set the tournament alight and was substituted at half-time during Bafana’s opener against Angola. Nkota was dropped for the Egypt game but returned against Zimbabwe, where he came off the bench to force a penalty.

Cheeseboy believes the 21-year-old should be given a chance as he’s only playing his major tournament.

Mokoena backs Nkota to perform against Bafana

“You know, I have been reading a lot of comments about Nkota. Obviously, the boy did not perform well since his AFCON debut; he probably knows it as well. Yes, we wanted Nkota to show us what he has been doing throughout the qualifiers,” Mokoena on SoccerBeat podcast.

“The alternation between him and Tshepang Moremi or doing better on the left-hand side is important. But let’s give him a chance. It’s not easy for a youngster to walk into those shoes and have to deliver, score, and create goals.”

The former Pirates star wants Nkota to perform for Bafana as he did before the AFCON.

“So, I think he just needs to work on that, get his confidence, and also try to alternate his game because I feel like he is just too one-dimensional. He does the same thing over and over again,” Mokoena added.

Bafana are in action on Sunday against Cameroon in the round of 16.

Should Hugo Broos start with Nkota or Moremi?
