Nollywood has welcomed another box office hit as Gingerrr, directed by Yemi Morafa, stormed into cinemas nationwide with a massive debut.

Released on September 26, the action-comedy raked in N82.8 million in its opening three days, proving that Nigerian audiences still have a strong appetite for stylish, fast-paced thrillers.

A Star-Packed Production

Backed by executive producers Bolaji Ogunmola, Kiekie, and Bisola Aiyeola, Gingerrr wasted no time making its mark. Within its first weekend, the film grossed N78.9 million before crossing the N82 million milestone.

With early success across major cities like Lagos and Abuja, it has quickly become one of the strongest Nollywood openers of 2025.

The film features a powerhouse cast that includes Blossom Chukwujeku, Faithia Williams, Lateef Adedimeji, Odunlade Adekola, Shaffy Bello, and Mr. Macaroni. The mix of veterans and crowd favorites has given Gingerrr both star power and wide audience appeal.

What the Film is About

Running for over two hours, Gingerrr tells the story of four women desperate for a better life who join forces to carry out a daring heist.

While their plan is bold and ambitious, personal secrets and betrayals soon threaten to tear them apart. The film blends humor, action, and drama while exploring loyalty, survival, and the thin line between right and wrong.

Following the Path of Sugar Rush

Gingerrr’s early success has drawn comparisons to Sugar Rush, the 2019 blockbuster produced by Jadesola Osiberu and Abimbola Craig.

That film, directed by Kayode Kasum, opened with N57 million and changed the landscape for Nollywood action-comedies. Like Sugar Rush, Gingerrr leans on a female-led cast, high-stakes storytelling, and glossy visuals that appeal to young audiences.

In both films, women drive the action, a shift from the traditional Nollywood formula where female characters often took the back seat. This focus on women at the center of crime capers gives the stories freshness, energy, and relatability.
