About 30 students and a teacher have been hospitalised following a suspected gas leak at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School in Ijebu Ode.

The incident reportedly occurred shortly after the morning assembly on Wednesday, when a strange gaseous substance spread across the school premises.

Eyewitnesses said panic broke out as students and staff began experiencing breathing difficulties, with many collapsing in the process.

The affected students, along with a teacher, were immediately rushed to the Ijebu Ode General Hospital for urgent medical attention.

While the exact cause of the incident is yet to be confirmed, some witnesses suspect a nearby gas emission, while others believe it may have originated from chemicals within the school laboratory.

Vice Principal of the school, Adeola Borogun, is expected to provide further details.
