Turkish giants Galatasaray are on the verge of a massive N105 billion (€66 million) windfall if they knockout Liverpool in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen delivered a superb assist as Galatasaray stunned Liverpool 1–0 in the first leg of their Round of 16 clash in Istanbul. The result leaves the English side trailing ahead of next Wednesday’s decisive return leg at Anfield.

A positive result in the second leg would not only secure a historic quarter-final place for the Turkish champions, but also position the club for a major financial windfall estimated at N105 billion.

Champions League success already boosts revenue

Galatasaray had already secured a financial boost of over N85 billion (€53.5 million) after progressing to the Round of 16 earlier in the competition.

The Turkish champions entered this season’s Champions League directly in the league phase, and since then, the Yellow-Reds have accumulated significant earnings from participation fees, performance bonuses and commercial revenues linked to broadcasting and historical rankings.

How the earnings add up

The club received €18.62 million simply for qualifying for the tournament. Their results during the league phase, three wins, one draw and four defeats, generated an additional €7 million in performance bonuses.

Further payments came from other UEFA distribution streams. Galatasaray earned €5.08 million as a ranking prize and €1 million for advancing to the playoff round.

Revenue linked to television broadcasting rights contributed roughly €8.4 million, while UEFA’s coefficient-based historical ranking system added another €2.4 million to the club’s income.

Juventus victory added another financial boost

The financial rewards increased further when Galatasaray eliminated Serie A side Juventus in the knockout playoff round, earning an additional €11 million in prize money.

Quarter-final qualification could unlock N105bn

Following the victory over Liverpool in the first leg, Galatasaray have moved one step closer to an even bigger payout. If the Istanbul club eliminates Liverpool in the return leg and progresses to the quarter-finals, it would receive an additional €12.5 million.

That would push the club’s total earnings from this season’s Champions League campaign to approximately €66 million (about N105 billion).

Under UEFA’s prize structure, revenues would continue to rise if the club advanced further. Reaching the semifinals would add €15 million, while a place in the final would bring in €18.5 million. Winning the tournament would yield an additional €6.5 million on top of those payments.
