FG Reaffirms AfCFTA Commitment at Intra-African Trade Fair 2025

Nigeria has restated its commitment to advancing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement, with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, joining global leaders at the ongoing Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025) in Algiers, Algeria.

The minister participated in high-level engagements on the sidelines of the Fair, meeting with the President and Chairman of Afreximbank, Professor Benedict Oramah, and the Chair of IATF 2025, former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo. Discussions centered on strengthening Nigeria’s trade integration agenda, expanding industrial capacity, and mobilising investments to drive sustainable growth across the continent.

The second day of the Fair also featured the Trade Forum, Arise Industrialization Day, Global Africa Day, and the CANE Auto Forum. The sessions highlighted Africa’s growing role in global supply chains, intra-African trade expansion, and investment opportunities.

Speaking after the meetings, Edun reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to implement reforms that would foster a competitive and enabling environment for trade and enterprise. He noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is committed to positioning Nigeria as a hub for value-added production and a key driver of Africa’s economic integration.

The minister’s participation, observers say, reflects Nigeria’s strategic focus on leveraging the AfCFTA framework to unlock new trade and industrial opportunities across the continent.
