The Federal Government has announced that Wednesday, October 1, 2025, will be a public holiday across the country. The day has been set aside to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary.
The announcement was made in Abuja by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Bola Tinubu administration. He congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad, describing the independence celebration as a moment of reflection and unity for the nation.
The minister noted that the anniversary is not only about looking back at the country’s journey since 1960 but also about encouraging citizens to remain committed to peace, progress, and national development.
This declaration means that government offices, schools, and most businesses will observe the holiday on Wednesday as Nigerians celebrate another milestone in the nation’s history.
October 1 remains a significant date in Nigeria’s calendar, symbolizing freedom, resilience, and the hope of a stronger future.
