Bundesliga side FC Augsburg are closing in on the signing of Nigerian striker Uchenna Ogundu from Turkish club Alanyaspor, Soccernet.ng reports.

The exciting 19-year-old is expected in Germany in the coming hours for a medical ahead of a permanent transfer.

Transfer expert Florian Plettenberg reports that the deal is at an advanced stage, with Augsburg hopeful of finalising terms swiftly. Should the move be completed, Ogundu will become the eighth Nigerian footballer to represent the Bavarian club, continuing a long link with the West African nation.

The most recent Nigerian to feature for Augsburg was Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka, who spent last season on loan from Brentford and made 34 appearances in all competitions. Club officials believe Ogundu’s arrival could provide fresh energy to an attack that has struggled for consistency this season.

Augsburg have scored just 22 goals in 19 Bundesliga matches, placing them among the league’s lowest scorers. The signing of a young, mobile forward is seen as part of a broader attempt to add pace, flexibility and competition in the final third.

Uchenna Ogundu gets Bundesliga opportunity

Ogundu’s rise has been rapid. A product of Nigeria’s Diamond Youth Academy, the striker moved to Turkey in the summer of 2024, initially joining third-tier side Şanlıurfaspor. His performances there caught the attention of Alanyaspor, who signed him on a free transfer last summer.

Despite his age, Ogundu has quickly adapted to top-flight football in Turkey. He has made 17 Süper Lig appearances this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist across all competitions. His progress has been reflected in his market valuation, which has reportedly risen from €650,000 to around €1.5m over the course of the campaign.

Comfortable playing across the frontline, Ogundu is admired for his technical ability, movement and willingness to take on defenders. Augsburg see him as a developmental signing with immediate upside, rather than a short-term fix.

For the teenager, a move to the Bundesliga would represent a major step forward and a chance to test himself in one of Europe’s most demanding leagues. Strong performances in Germany could also place him on the radar of Nigeria’s national team selectors ahead of future Africa Cup of Nations squads.

While financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, Augsburg are hopeful the transfer can be completed without delay, allowing Ogundu to begin the next chapter of his career in German football.
