The City of Tshwane will implement an eight-hour water outage on Tuesday, 9 December, as part of a significant upgrade to its water infrastructure in the Zwartkoppies area.

Officials confirmed that the Water and Sanitation Business Unit will “carry out a tie-in connection to the water supply network at Portion 20 in Zwartkoppies 364-JR.” The work is scheduled to run from 8:00 to 16:00.

The maintenance will affect a large section of the eastern region, including Tyger Valley Extensions 105, 106, 107, 108, 109, 20, 21, 10, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 72. Silver Wood Country Estate, Curro Hazeldean Primary School and Curro Hazeldean High School will also experience interrupted supply during the upgrades.

Tshwane appeals for patience and cooperation during the water outage

City officials emphasised that the work is necessary to ensure the long-term reliability of the water system and asked residents to remain patient throughout the planned interruption.

In a statement, the city said it “apologises for the inconvenience that may arise from this planned work and appreciates residents’ understanding and cooperation.”

The municipality advised all affected households to store enough water for domestic use ahead of the outage, noting that supply will be restored as soon as the maintenance is completed.

Water-saving habits reinforced

Alongside the outage notice, the city urged residents to adopt stronger water-saving habits. It encouraged households to avoid garden irrigation during peak daylight hours, stating, “Do not water or irrigate gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 6:00 and 18:00.”

Residents were also reminded not to wash vehicles with hosepipes and to refrain from filling swimming pools unnecessarily. The city further advised residents to continue using grey water for gardening and toilet flushing, and to report any burst pipes, leaks, or incidents of water wastage. Where possible, water-saving devices should be installed to reduce consumption.

The city stressed that conserving water should remain part of everyday behaviour, particularly during periods of system maintenance and high demand.
