Sipho “DJ Sgqemeza” Mbatha has broken his silence over his departure from Ukhozi FM on Tuesday, 31 March 2026.

According to a statement Mbatha released on Facebook, various articles circulated online claiming he chose to leave Ukhozi FM, which he denied.

DJ SGQEMEZA BREAKS SILENCE OVER UKHOZI FM DEPARTURE

His exit comes as Ukhozi FM reshuffled their presenters, adding a new lineup.

The former Ukhozi FM Breakfast show host confirmed in the statement that he would not be returning to the radio station.

“Ukhozi FM did not renew my contract for the upcoming financial year. This is within their right and I respect the organisation’s prerogative,” he said.

He further stated that the process and communication surrounding his exit has raised concerns, which he escalated to the SABC.

Mbatha was a co-host for the Vuka Afrika Breakfast Show alongside Nonhlanhla “Mroza” Buthelezi. The show aired from 6:00 to 9:00 every Monday to Friday.

He said Ukhozi FM did offer him an alternative on-air offering, which he declined after having a discussion with his family and careful consideration.

DJ SGQEMEZA DECLINES RUMOURS OF LEAVING TO FOCUS ON MINISTRY

Apart from being a radio host, Mbatha is also an ordained minister. He denied rumours about him requesting to leave to focus on the ministry.

“This is not true. I did not initiate such a request and this narrative has created a false impression that my departure was voluntary and mutually agreed upon,” he clarified.

He adds that while he remains respectful for the SABC and Ukhozi FM, he is concerned about how certain individuals within the management department handled the matter.

Mbatha thanked advertisers and listeners who supported him throughout his radio journey from community radio, SABC radio and various shows he hosted.

“I remain available, committed and open to future opportunities,” he mentioned.

The South African reached out to Ukhozi FM for a comment but they did not respond by the time of publication.
