According to a report by Daily Post on Monday, March 9, 2026, islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi has said he would support armed groups in Nigeria if they agree to stop violence and hold talks with the government.
Speaking during an interview with DRTV, Gumi said groups such as the Indigenous People of Biafra, Boko Haram terrorists and bandits should be ready to lay down their arms before any support can be given.
He explained that peaceful dialogue is the best way to end conflicts across the country.
According to him: “Dialogue can bring peace and we are men of peace.”

Gumi said negotiations between the government and armed groups could help restore stability in many parts of Nigeria.
He also suggested that IPOB members might be willing to discuss peace if given the opportunity.
The cleric said: “Even IPOB which was once into succession are ready to put down their arms, come to a round table to discuss.”
However, he stressed that violence must stop before such discussions can happen.
Gumi also spoke about the lack of trust between citizens and the government, saying many Nigerians feel government promises are often not fulfilled.
He said insecurity in Nigeria is linked to deeper national problems such as poor infrastructure and economic challenges.
According to him, Nigeria’s road network is poor, electricity supply is unreliable, healthcare services are weak and many people cannot access quality education.
Gumi believes that solving these problems will help reduce insecurity.
He added that experts and intellectuals should be involved in discussions on how to solve the country’s security challenges.
