Courtroom remands suspected killer of Ekiti conventional rulers

An Ekiti State Justice of the Peace’s Courtroom has remanded a 25-year-old man, Babuga Lede, within the correctional centre for allegedly killing two conventional rulers within the state.

The standard rulers, the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba David Babatunde Ogunsakin and the Olumojo of Imojo Ekiti, Oba Samuel Olusola, have been killed by the gunmen who accosted them; whereas the Alara of Ara (Ikole), Oba Sunday Fatoba, escaped being killed through the assault alongside Oke Ako – Irele Street on January 29.

Whereas arraigning the suspect on Tuesday, the police prosecutor, Yomi Osuolale, informed the courtroom that “there’s possible trigger to order the remand of the defendant on the Correctional Centre in Ado Ekiti”.

Osuolale stated, “The defendant is fairly suspected to have dedicated an offence of conspiracy to kidnap, try and homicide and homicide of Oba David Babatunde Ogunsakin and Oba Samuel Olatunde Ishola.

“The defendant additionally tried to kidnap Oba Samuel Adebayo Fatoba and Bamidele Ibikunle Joseph (driver).

“The offence is punishable underneath Sections 280, 241 and 234 of the Prison Regulation of Ekiti State 2021, inside Ekiti Magisterial District on the twenty ninth day of January 2024.”

Osuolale additionally informed the courtroom that the defendant was arrested in Ikole Ekiti on January 29, with weapons.

He stated the duplicate case file had been forwarded to the Ekiti State Director of Public Prosecution for authorized recommendation.

The Justice of the Peace, Olubunmi Bamidele, ordered the remand of the defendant on the Ado Ekiti Correctional Custody pending authorized recommendation from the DPP.

The Justice of the Peace adjourned the case until April 24, for additional listening to.
