A Johannesburg car dealership has joined many South Africans in mocking Woolworths and alleged fraudster businessman Vusi “Cat” Matlala.

Over the past week, the tenderpreneur’s claims that he used the retailer’s shopping bags to stash cash for criminal activities has been the fodder of many social media memes.

Woolworth’s changing the appearance of their bags, and other retailers capitalising on the faux pas, has also been a trending topic.

CAR DEALERSHIP MOCKS VUSI ‘CAT’ MATLALA, WOOLWORTHS

On its social media platforms, Johannesburg car dealership M5 Auto Boksburg posted a viral video making light of both Vusi “Cat” Matlala and Woolworths.

In the video post, a prospective car buyer casually strolls into the dealership.

He nonchalantly asks about the prices of the supercars before handing over a Woolworths shopping bag filled with cash.

“Don’t judge a book by its cover”, the caption reads on the clip that has received over a million views.

HOW DID THE JOKE BEGIN?

Last week,  Vusi “Cat” Matlala testified that former Minister of Police Bheki Cele allegedly demanded a R1 million bribe in exchange for his assistance in a criminal activity.

The trendy-looking “tenderpreuneur” paid half the money,  in two installments of R200 000 and R300 000, which he placed in a Woolworths shopping bag.

Woolies later made light of the mention with a cheeky X post.

The retailer tweeted: “Secures the groceries. A makeshift overnight bag. The national carrier. The multi-talented. Ladies and gentlemen… The right way to use the W bag”.

Since then, Nando’s has hopped on the bandwagon, as have other retailers, such as Shoprite and Checkers.
