Residents in Colorado Park will experience a planned electricity interruption as the City of Cape Town rolls out critical infrastructure maintenance on Friday, 24 April. The scheduled outage will run from 8:00 to 18:00, affecting areas linked to several substations.

The city says the maintenance forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure a stable and reliable electricity supply. In a notice issued to residents, the city stated that it “advises Colorado Park residents of an upcoming critical electricity supply interruption for infrastructure maintenance.”

Planned maintenance across multiple substations in Cape Town

The maintenance work will impact the electricity supply connected to several substations, including Florida, Kentucky, Madison, Kansas, Queens, Kings, Bond, Wembley, Regent Villas, and Pacific Fruit and Nut. These sites play a key role in distributing power across the affected areas.

The city emphasised that the power outage will affect only the locations highlighted on official maps, and only on the specified date.

“Please note that the interruption to supply will only impact the areas on the maps and only on the relevant dates,” the city said.

While the power outage is expected to last 10 hours, the city cautioned that restoration could occur earlier if work proceeds smoothly.

Safety warning during maintenance

The city urged residents to remain cautious throughout the maintenance period, warning that electricity may be restored without prior notice.

“The electricity supply could be restored at any time and customers must please treat all electrical installations as live for the full duration,” the notice explained.

To reduce the risk of damage, residents should switch off electrical appliances before the power outage begins. This precaution helps prevent potential power surges when the electricity supply resumes.

The city stressed that safety remains a top priority during infrastructure upgrades, especially when dealing with high-voltage systems.

City apologises for inconvenience

The City acknowledged the disruption the outage may cause to households and businesses in the area. “The City apologises for any inconvenience caused while the essential maintenance is being carried out,” officials said.
