A historic Cape Dutch estate in Zwaanswyk in Cape Town has been sold for a record-breaking R59.8 million, setting a new benchmark for residential property prices in the area.

The Stillness Manor estate, a 14-bedroom heritage property nestled on a four-acre plot, was sold by Lew Geffen Sotheby’s International Realty to an international buyer.

The final sale price is nearly 3.5 times the suburb’s average residential sale price of R17 million over the past year.

First farms in Western Cape

Dating back to 1688, the manor was originally part of one of the first farms in the Western Cape.

The property features 10 north-east facing dwellings with a combined floor size of approximately 1 650 square metres.

Over the years, the estate has operated as a high-end hotel and wellness spa, boasting an indoor pool, two outdoor pools, a tennis court, wine cellar, formal dining room seating 20 guests, and parking for up to 22 vehicles.

The main house, topped with a classic Cape Dutch gable, offers sweeping views of False Bay and Steenberg Golf Estate.

Lew Geffen Sotheby’s International noted that Zwaanswyk remains one of Cape Town’s most sought-after suburbs, driven by low turnover and a long-term resident base.

Data shows that more than 40% of current homeowners in the area have lived there for over 11 years.

The average household income exceeds R200 000 per month, making the suburb one of the most affluent in South Africa.

With limited stock available and high demand from both local and international buyers, the area is expected to maintain its competitive edge in the luxury property market.
