Matt Brown believes Henry Cejudo will reclaim his bantamweight title in 2023.
“The Messenger” will return to the Octagon after a two-year layoff to problem Aljamain Sterling for the bantamweight championship, with the matchup anticipated to happen in March, probably at UFC 285.
Throughout a latest look on The Fighter vs. The Writer, “The Immortal” acknowledged that he thinks Cejudo will beat Sterling “comparatively simply”, citing Cejudo’s superior boxing and wrestling abilities as the primary cause for his prediction.
“I feel Cejudo beats Aljamain fairly soundly,” Brown acknowledged “I feel [Cejudo’s] bought super boxing, superb wrestling. I don’t suppose Aljamain’s going to have the ability to get him down. I feel he’s simply bought higher boxing, higher standup. He’s very disciplined together with his standup. He stays tight and powerful.
“I’m going to go together with Cejudo on that. I feel he beats him comparatively simply. Cejudo, I’m choosing very soundly to win that battle [against Sterling].”
As for Sean O’Malley, Brown believes “Sugar” can be out of his depth in a possible title battle and that Cejudo completely “destroys” him within the Octagon.
“If we’re speaking about champion on the finish of the 12 months, I’m going to go together with Cejudo,” Brown stated. “He beats Aljamain and he destroys Sean O’Malley.”
O’Malley earned a bantamweight title shot with a hard-fought break up resolution victory over Petr Yan at UFC 280. He’s anticipated to tackle the winner of Sterling vs. Cejudo within the coming 12 months, though nothing has been made official.
