According to a report by The Nation on Thursday, March 12, 2026, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the acquisition of additional military equipment as Nigeria intensifies operations against insurgents and bandits across the country. The decision followed a high-level security meeting with top defence and intelligence officials at the State House in Abuja.

The development was disclosed by the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, after security chiefs briefed the President on recent attacks targeting military formations in the North-East, particularly in Borno State.

According to the minister, the meeting reviewed the evolving security situation and assessed the operational response of the armed forces and other security agencies. He said commanders provided updates on conditions in the field and the measures being taken to counter new tactics adopted by terrorist groups.

Musa explained that the military had already adjusted its strategies to respond to the changing methods used by insurgents. He noted that Nigerian forces had recorded gains in recent operations, including eliminating several militant commanders and reclaiming locations previously threatened by armed groups.

The defence minister also acknowledged that some officers and soldiers had lost their lives during operations, describing their sacrifice as part of the ongoing effort to safeguard the country.

He said the President’s approval of additional military hardware and logistics would further strengthen security forces in the ongoing campaign against insurgency.

“Mr President has promised more equipment for us to be able to protect the country against the war, and we are sure of victory,” Musa said.

He added that coordination among the armed forces, intelligence agencies and the police remains central to the renewed push to stabilise affected regions and restore security across Nigeria.
