Human rights activist and politician Omoyele Sowore has condemned the Nigerian military’s involvement in the recent land dispute between personnel stationed at a contested site and officials of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration.

Sowore voiced his criticism in a post shared on his official Instagram account on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, reacting to a viral video that captured a tense confrontation between soldiers and FCT officials at the disputed location. The footage, which showed uniformed officers and government representatives arguing near a fenced property, sparked widespread reactions across social media.

In his statement, Sowore accused the military of abandoning its constitutional duty of defending the nation’s borders in favor of private interests. He wrote, “The military’s primary duty is to protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity, yet it is now being used to guard a piece of land allegedly belonging to a senior officer, supposedly under ‘orders.’”

The activist further argued that the situation reflected a deeper issue of corruption and misplaced priorities within governance. According to him, “This incident illustrates how public officials often prioritize the interests of a privileged few over the collective security of the nation, and Minister @Nyesom Ezenwo Wike – CON, GSSRS is no exception.”

Sowore also drew parallels with a previous episode involving the current FCT Minister during his tenure as governor of Rivers State. He alleged that Wike once obstructed officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from arresting a judge accused of corruption, describing the incident as another example of political hypocrisy.

The clash at the site earlier that day had already attracted public attention after Minister Nyesom Wike accused soldiers of preventing FCT officials from enforcing land regulations. Wike maintained that no construction would be allowed on the disputed land without the necessary approvals and vowed not to be intimidated by military presence.
