Prominent Islamic cleric and leader of the Tijjaniyya movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, has passed away. Reports of his death began circulating early Thursday morning.
The news was confirmed by Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, who posted a tribute on X. In his message, Ahmad expressed deep sorrow over the cleric’s passing, describing him as a revered leader and praying for Allah’s mercy upon him.
“May Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds, and grant him Jannatul Firdaus,” he wrote.
The scholar’s son, Sayyadi Ali Dahiru Usman Bauchi, also confirmed the death in a statement to Daily Trust. He said the family was grateful to Allah for his long and impactful life, but could not yet confirm where the burial would take place, as he was currently in Madinah.
“It is confirmed. Sheikh has returned to his Creator. We thank Almighty Allah for sparing his life until this time. Sheikh’s life was well spent,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the family nor the Bauchi State Government has issued an official announcement regarding funeral arrangements.
