Fenerbahçe have parted ways with José Mourinho after the club failed to secure a spot in the 2025–26 UEFA Champions League, sources confirmed on Wednesday.

The Portuguese tactician, known for his high-profile stints across Europe, leaves the Turkish giants after a tenure that did not meet the club’s ambitious targets.

The decision comes as a blow to fans who had hoped Mourinho’s experience would propel Fenerbahçe back into Europe’s elite competition.

Despite moments of promise in domestic competitions, the failure to qualify for the Champions League was deemed unacceptable by the club’s management.

Mourinho, a two-time Champions League winner with different clubs, faced intense pressure since his appointment, with expectations high both on and off the pitch. Analysts note that his departure highlights the unforgiving nature of modern football management, where results often outweigh reputation.

Fenerbahçe now faces a crucial managerial search as they aim to stabilise their squad and rebuild for next season. Supporters have expressed disappointment but remain hopeful that the club can quickly appoint a replacement capable of restoring European ambitions.
