Aitana Bonmati will join Spain’s Euro 2025 squad in the coming days, having been discharged from hospital after being diagnosed with viral meningitis.
Bonmati missed Spain’s final warm-up match ahead of the tournament in Switzerland, as they beat Japan 3-1 in a friendly on Friday.
The Barcelona midfielder – a two-time Ballon d’Or Feminin winner – was subsequently revealed to have been treated for viral meningitis.
That threw her chances of featuring in Spain’s opening Group B fixture – versus Portugal on Thursday – into doubt.
However, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has now confirmed the 27-year-old has left hospital and will link up with her team-mates shortly.
A statement from the RFEF read: “After several days in hospital with viral meningitis, Aitana Bonmati has been discharged from hospital and will join the Spanish National Team’s training camp in the coming days.”
