Two sides who will meet for the second time in the space of a fortnight, Inter Miami will welcome Seattle to Florida in the early hours of Wednesday.
Starting with the hosts, suffering major Leagues Cup heartbreak on September 1st as they eventually fell to a 3-0 drumming at the hands of Wednesday’s guests, Inter Miami find themselves in the midst of what has become a recent rut. Turning their attention back to MLS duties over the weekend with another nightmare performance as they fell to another shock 3-0 defeat against Charlotte, Javier Mascherano’s men have now recorded just a single win from any of their previous four appearances across all competitions. Now seeking a real miracle in the race to successfully defend their Eastern Conference crown, the Herons have also shown some worrying defensive struggles. Despite signing off August with a 3-1 victory against Orlando, Inter Miami have failed to record a clean sheet in any of their last 10 consecutive showdowns – a run that stems all the way back to July 27th. Likewise, Mascherano’s side have remarkably mustered just a sole clean sheet in front of their own supporters since the start of March.
As for the visitors, crowned Leagues Cup champions on September 1st thanks to that iconic 3-0 romp against Inter Miami, Seattle are riding what has become a record-breaking wave of momentum. Despite eventually settling for a frantic 2-2 stalemate at home against LA Galaxy last weekend, the Sounders have suffered just a single defeat from any of their previous 16 appearances across all competitions – a run that stems all the way back to their Club World Cup adventure back in June. Skyrocketing their way up the Western Conference standings, Brian Schmetzer’s side have also continued to impress with their free-scoring performances in the final third. Storming their way to a stellar 5-2 victory against Sporting KC on August 25th, Wednesday’s guests have notched 12 goals in just their last four outings. Likewise, landing a remarkable 7-0 romp away at Mexican outfit Cruz Azul last month, Seattle have won three of their previous four showdowns away from Lumen Field.
