Competition: Serie A

Market: Roma win

Odds: 8/11 @ BetUS

Seeking an immediate Serie A response on Sunday afternoon, Roma will travel to the Unipol Domus when they meet a struggling Cagliari.

Starting with the hosts, watching their Coppa Italia adventure come to an end earlier in the week as they suffered penalty shootout heartbreak away at reigning Serie A champions Napoli, Cagliari are enduring what has been an extended rut. Despite hanging onto their top-flight status last season, the Islanders have a real battle on their hands this time around. Signing off November with a 2-1 loss at the hands of Italian giants Juventus, Fabio Pisacane’s side have now failed to win any of their previous 10 appearances across all competitions – a rut that stems all the way back to September 23rd. With their nightmare run of form underlined by a 2-1 defeat at home against Sassuolo on October 30th, Cagliari will be bracing themselves for another stern examination here. Getting Sunday’s fixtures underway holding just a one-point buffer from slipping into the relegation zone, it should also be highlighted that Pisacane’s downbeat squad have mustered just one-point from any of their previous four Serie A showdowns at the Unipol Domus.

As for the visitors, eventually falling to a 1-0 loss at home against historic foes Napoli last weekend, Roma will be desperately searching for an immediate response here. Nevertheless, remarkably sat within touching distance of top spot, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have received plenty of plaudits from across the continent. Getting their charge for a Europa League knockout stage ticket back on track last month as they secured a 2-1 victory at home against Midtjylland, the former Atalanta boss has seen his squad win each of their other four appearances across all competitions. Marking their return from November’s international break with a 3-1 romp away at relegation scrappers Cremonese, Roma should be smelling a golden opportunity here. Pencilled in as a standout contender, it should also be highlighted that Gasperini’s men have continued to shine on their travels. Including a 2-0 victory against Scottish heavyweights Rangers on November 6th, the Wolves have won seven of their first eight showdowns away from the Stadio Olimpico across all formats.
