An outbreak of chicken flu has been reported with an estimated inhabitants of 107,807 birds, in farms at some stage in three native executive areas in Kaduna.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Ibrahim Hussaini, at some stage in a stakeholders’ meeting with the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN) on Tuesday, stated the affected farms were positioned in Chikun, Igabi and Lere native executive areas.
Represented by Pakachi Zakariya, the director, Veterinary and Farm animals Services and products, within the ministry, Mr Hussaini stated the assessments were conducted by the Nationwide Research Veterinary Institute and were sure to extremely pathogenic AI.
He added that the three farms had been depopulated, decontaminated, and staring at for the outcomes of the fourth farm as efforts were in situation to contain the problem.
“We have came at some stage in that wild birds are the predominant hosts of Avian Influenza. We suspect that these wild birds will have gotten in touch with some birds within the poultry and that will were the genesis of the outbreak,” he stated.
The commissioner instructed all farmers in Kaduna not to be scared of losses as there is a compensation policy for poultry farmers.
Abel Williams, the deputy director of the provider, talked about that the predominant outbreak used to be confirmed in Kaiaga within the Lere LGA, with a stock of 5,000 with a mortality of 1,000 birds.
The 2nd case used to be confirmed on January 6 within the federal housing estate in Gonin Gora, Chikun LGA with a stock of 1,807 birds with a mortality of 150 birds.
He disclosed that the third case used to be on January 7, at Magaje memorial farms in Maraban Jos of Igabi LGA, with a stock dimension of 82,000 birds with a loss of life price of 32,000 birds.
Mr Williams added that on January 15, one more case used to be recorded in Sutawa in Lere LGA with 14,000 stocks of birds with a loss of life price of 4,000.
