Some civil society organisations have condemned the N9.8bn contract for the rehabilitation of hyperlink roads and different services on the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Worldwide Airport.
The Govt Council of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, on Friday, awarded the contract to Julius Berger Plc.
The Govt Secretary of the Federal Capital Improvement Authority, Shehu Ahmad, who briefed the press after the ninth Govt Council assembly held on the FCT Secretariat in Abuja, defined that the contractor had six months to finish the challenge.
Ahmad added that the contract included the rehabilitation of the hyperlink street, entry street to the presidential kitchen, rehabilitation of the hangar housing the presidential plane, and the holding centre for visiting presidents.
“The second memo offered from the facet of the FCDA has to do with some rehabilitation, the development of the present hyperlink street from Invoice Clinton Drive to the Presidential Wing. You probably have plied that street, you realize that that street is in a state of disrepair, after which there are different services inside the Presidential Wing.
“These have proven indicators of misery and dilapidation, so they’re going to be rehabilitated. There’s a presidential kitchen, which is based inside the Presidential Wing. There is no such thing as a entry from the street that’s coming from the primary street into that place. We are going to rehabilitate that street.
“These are a number of the services which are to be completed, after which there are some lights, the runway lights, on the facet of the presidential wing. After which there’s a visitor home, a holding heart, we name it, for visiting presidents, and naturally, for the opposite utilization”, he stated.
Reacting to the award, a civil society organisation, the Democratic Socialist Motion, described it as frivolous and insensitive.
In accordance with DSM, the award is one other pointer to President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s insincerity in decreasing the price of governance.
The Nationwide Secretary of the group, Peluola Adewale, in an interview with Saturday PUNCH, stated, “It’s typically about Tinubu’s authorities. Whereas he has Nigerians to tighten our belts, he doesn’t care about us as he continues to dwell in opulence. He doesn’t cut back his luxurious life-style.
“We should always not neglect the billions of naira spent on the rehabilitation of the vice presidential villa, and the acquisition of a brand new jet amongst different luxurious life, when the vast majority of the individuals are languishing in poverty and starvation. Tinubu don’t care in regards to the individuals, we are able to see that in his anti-poor, pro-rich insurance policies.
“The N9.8bn presidential wing rehabilitation contract is a misplacement of precedence, frivolous and insensitive.”
Additionally, the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights questioned the need for the challenge, describing it as one other ‘pointless challenge’.
“Individuals are hungry and dying as a result of they don’t have cash to purchase meals and medicines, but, the Tinubu’s authorities prioritises an expensive life-style in opposition to the welfare of the individuals,” stated the CDHR Chairman in Osun State, Emmanuel Olowu.
