Ruben Amorim has expressed confidence that Manchester United can end the 2025/26 season on a high, despite closing out 2025 with a disappointing 1–1 draw at home to relegation-threatened Wolves.
Rob Edwards’ side arrived at Old Trafford on a run of 11 consecutive Premier League defeats, rooted to the bottom of the table with just two points from 18 matches.
However, Wolves left with a rare positive result after Ladislav Krejci cancelled out Joshua Zirkzee’s deflected opener for Man United.

The draw came just three weeks after Amorim’s side had beaten Wolves 4–1 at Molineux, a match in which Bruno Fernandes, Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount were on the scoresheet. Those three were among eight absentees for United this time, as injuries continued to hamper the squad.
Despite the setback, sixth-placed Man United remain only two points behind reigning champions Liverpool, who have a game in hand, in the race for the final guaranteed Champions League spot.
“I’m really confident,” Amorim said at the halfway point of the season. “We just need to recover all the players, and I’m really confident.
“I don’t know what is going to happen until the end of the season. Then we will make the resume of the season. But I’m really confident that when we recover all the players, we are going to be a strong team. There is no doubt in my mind.”
United begin 2026 with a trip to face fierce rivals Leeds on Sunday, though Amorim insisted he would not risk aggravating existing injuries.
The Red Devils lacked creativity against Wolves, prompting Amorim to replace goalscorer Zirkzee, who had come in for the injured Mount, at half-time with teenager Jack Fletcher.
The Portuguese coach confirmed the change was tactical. “We need to do what the game was asking,” he said. “We were struggling because they put a lot of men in midfield. With Jack, we balanced that.
“In the first half, we struggled to recover the ball, but in the second half, we did it faster. At this moment, I’m not looking at age or experience; I’m just looking at what I can do to win the game.”
United reverted to Amorim’s preferred three-man defence, having previously enjoyed success with a back four.
Wolves boss Rob Edwards, meanwhile, praised his side after securing their first point since he took charge last month.
“It’s nice to take something from the game,” Edwards said ahead of Saturday’s clash with fellow strugglers West Ham. “I feel it’s the least we deserve. It’s progress. Overall, it was a really good performance.”
