The death of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu has left many Nigerians heartbroken. At just 29, she was already known as a brilliant lawyer, a respected journalist, and a passionate advocate for social justice. 

Sadly, her life was cut short on September 29, 2025, during an armed robbery in Abuja.

She Once Wore the Crown of Miss Tourism Nigeria

Before her career in journalism, Somtochukwu first caught the public eye in the world of pageantry. She won the Miss Tourism Nigeria title, an achievement that brought her national recognition and opened doors beyond the runway.

She Represented Nigeria on the Global Stage

After winning her crown, she proudly represented Nigeria at the Miss Tourism World pageant in Quanzhou, China, in 2023. Her participation was celebrated as a moment of pride, showcasing Nigerian culture and elegance on an international platform.

She Joined Arise News in 2024

In September 2024, Somtochukwu became part of the ARISE NEWS team. Within a short time, she made her mark as a news anchor, producer, and reporter. Her legal training gave her an edge, especially when reporting on issues of justice and governance.

Sommie was more than a journalist, she was an advocate. She used her platform to campaign for out-of-school children and spoke strongly against sexual and gender-based violence. Her voice made her stand out as a defender of the vulnerable.
