President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed that the proposed 2X30/40 MVA substation in Akwa Ibom State would enhance the nationwide grid’s wheeling capability to 25, 000MW by 2025.
Buhari revealed this in Ibiono Ibom Native Authorities Space of Akwa Ibom State whereas performing the bottom breaking ceremony for the development of the substation estimated to price over N6.8 billion.
The President who was represented by the Minister of State for Energy, Prince Goddy Jeddy-Agba, stated that the bottom breaking of the substation was a achievement of his marketing campaign guarantees to Akwa Ibom State.

Buhari added that the venture would improved service supply and enhance capability to produce energy to the individuals of Akwa Ibom and different neighbouring states stating that, “The venture upon completion would strengthen the nationwide grid by rising its wheeling capability to 25, 000MW by 2025.”
In his remarks, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, pledged the state authorities’s help to the completion of the venture as scheduled.
Emmanuel, who was represented by the Commissioner for Energy and Petroleum Growth, Mr John Etim, counseled the president for placing politics apart to award the venture to Akwa Ibom.
“As a state authorities, we are going to give all the required help wanted to make sure the completion of this energy venture,” he stated.
Earlier, Mr Philip Okpanefe, Assistant Director (Transmission), Federal Ministry of Energy whereas introducing the venture stated that Federal Authorities had awarded the contract for the development of the substation to JAMEC West Africa Ltd to finish the venture inside 18 months, including that the contract had overseas element and native element with the overseas element in {dollars} whereas the native element in naira.
