‘After matric, I wished to turn out to be a soldier’ – Ex-Orlando Pirates captain

Fortunate Lekgwathi, the previous captain of Orlando Pirates, revealed that he virtually joined the military after finishing his matric within the 90s.

The 48-year-old former defender spent 14 years with the Buccaneers and gained three league trophies. He joined the workforce from the now-defunct Ria Stars and made a direct impression on the membership, enjoying alongside the likes of Mbulelo ‘OJ’ Mabizela.

After 5 seasons at Orlando Pirates, Lekgwathi was made membership captain and went on to elevate seven trophies.

Talking on the Smash Sports activities podcast, the retired footballer stated he would have grew to become a soldier if he didn’t play soccer.

“I began my profession at Actual Rovers. After passing my matric, myself and a good friend wished to turn out to be troopers and we despatched our CVs by. By the point they referred to as us for an interview, Rovers referred to as me in for trials,” he stated.

Lekgwathi gained seven trophies as Pirates captain
