The Unbiased Nationwide Electoral Fee (INEC) has suspended the collation of leads to Adamawa supplementary election over what it known as the usurpation of energy by its Residents Electoral Commissioner (REC).
This comes after Yunusa Ari, the REC introduced Aisha ‘Binani’ Dahiru, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), because the winner of the election. His announcement has elicited protests from members of the Peoples Democratic Celebration (PDP).
The electoral umpire made the announcement in a press release signed by its spokesman Festus Okoye on Twitter, Sunday morning.
“The eye of the Fee has been drawn to a purported declaration of winner within the Adamawa Governorship election by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) even when the method has clearly not been concluded,” INEC tweeted.
“The motion of the REC is a usurpation of the ability of the Returning Officer. It’s null, void and of no impact.
Consequently, the collation of outcomes of the supplementary election is hereby suspended.
“The REC, Returning Officer and all concerned are hereby invited to the Fee’s Headquarters in Abuja instantly.
