In an announcement, the Power Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi, mentioned the inspector-general had directed an investigative crew to “work in collaboration” with the Unbiased Nationwide Electoral Fee (INEC) “to expedite motion on the problem”.
INEC had earlier written to the IGP asking to research and prosecute the embattled REC for alleged misconduct through the supplementary elections in Adamawa. Based on Mr Adejobi, the Police will “proceed to uphold the nation’s democratic values”; as such, no stone could be left unturned in the middle of the investigation to “carry the perpetrators to e book”.
Yunusa-Ari is accused of usurping the function of the Returning Officer when he introduced the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Aishatu “Binani” Dahiru, because the winner of the election whereas collation was ongoing. Instantly, INEC barred the beleaguered REC from its workplaces in Adamawa and requested the IGP to probe him.
