“The empowerment of girls is probably the most inclusive method to transfer ahead as a group. Canada can be selling media freedom and offers dialogues for journalists. Regionally we’ve got partnered with organisations in India and different locations and conduct actions and supply alternatives for journalists to share their views and have discussions on these points,” stated Duncan, who had gained one of the best influencer award on the Ladies in Variety Awards in 2020.
Duncan remarked on how her profession in Canada was flourishing till a pal at some point claimed she was solely receiving alternatives attributable to being black and a girl.
“I used to be unhappy, offended, for my capabilities had been missed, and sooner or later, it makes you doubt your capabilities. So, this expertise and lots of others in my profession over 15 years, made me delicate to inclusive, free media and equality for ladies in journalism.
“One factor that I ensured, once I was working with girls, was to make it possible for they had been okay, be it addressing problems with race, sexual harassment at workplaces, gender pay hole, girls not being provided high management positions in newsrooms,” stated Duncan, who can be the chief director of the Media Girlfriends podcast firm and community.
The award-winning journalist shared how her podcast Media Girlfriends could be very near her coronary heart, because the central theme of it’s the experiences of girls in media, their careers and private lives.
From 2016 to 2020, Duncan was the host of Canadian Broadcasting Company’s morning present Recent Air.
Nana Aba Duncan is a Canadian-Ghanaian journalist based mostly in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
