Two Nigerian para-powerlifters win gold, silver at African championship

Nigeria’s Roland Ezurike and Bose Bejide have gained gold and silver medals within the 51kg and 50kg class on the ongoing Para Powerlifting African Open Championship in Cairo, Egypt.

Chiemeka Ezenwanne, President, Nigeria Para-Powerlifting Federation, who disclosed this, mentioned that the event was a brand new report set by the athletes.

He added that the event would allow the athletes to compete within the second stage of qualifiers for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

“I’m excited that our group is beginning very properly and it’s making us proud.

“Having gained two medals on the second day of the championships could be very commendable.

“I’m sure that if we’re capable of emerge winner on this match, the federal government will recognise all our efforts the extra.

“I’m positive, we will probably be supported for the Olympics, developing in 2024 in Paris,” he added.

He added that 5 athletes would even be contesting at the moment, whereas the opposite 4 would contest tomorrow.

Ezenwanne appreciated the Minister for Youths and Sports activities, Sunday Dare, for immensely contributing to the success of the para-powerlifting group in Cairo.

He added that the funds had been made accessible to embark on the essential journey.
