Smugglers ambush, kill Kwara customs officer, injure three

An official of the Nigeria Customs Service, Kwara State, Saheed Aweda, has been killed and three others injured after they have been ambushed by suspected smugglers.

A press release by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Chado Zakari, on behalf of the Joint Border Patrol Crew, Sector 3, stated the officers have been attacked alongside Sinau-Kenu Street within the Baruten Native Authorities Space of the state.

Aweda was stated to have been buried based on Islamic rites in his house city in Popogbona within the Ilorin West LGA of the state.

The assertion defined that the officers have been on a routine patrol and had recovered some contraband items once they have been attacked.

The assertion learn partially, “JBPT Sector 3 operatives on data patrol alongside Sinau-Kenu Street in Baruten LGA of Kwara State intercepted 40 baggage of international parboiled rice, 50kg every, and 30 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit, 25 litres every, deserted on the bush path, Sinau-Kenu Street.

“The operatives instantly swung into motion and eliminated the seized objects into their operational autos for onward supply to a authorities warehouse for safe-keeping in keeping with guidelines of engagement. Whereas on transit, a gaggle of hoodlums laid ambush and attacked our personnel with weapons, stones, bottles, cutlasses, sticks, charms and different harmful objects.

“The hoodlums shot sporadically on the officers. Within the fiery trade that ensued, one among our officers succumbed to the chilly fingers of dying, whereas three officers sustained life-threatening accidents and are at present responding to therapy in a hospital.”

The assertion stated the Coordinator, JBPT, Comptroller Olugboyega Peters, representatives of the Division State Companies, Nigeria Police Pressure, Workplace of the Nationwide Safety Adviser, Nigerian Immigration Service and different safety companies had visited and commiserated with the household of the deceased.
