Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has expressed a burning desire to etch his name into Nigerian football history by clinching the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco, Soccernet.ng reports.

Iwobi is among the key players head coach Eric Chelle will rely on to be at the peak of his powers as Nigeria chases a historic fourth AFCON trophy.

The former Arsenal and Everton star remains one of the most creative sparks in the squad and is expected to anchor the midfield alongside Wilfred Ndidi.

The current set of Super Eagles players enter the tournament with a significant point to prove. Despite their individual talents, this generation of players has struggled to secure trophies or honors.

With World Cup qualification becoming an increasingly difficult task and the AFCON title remaining elusive, the pressure is on the Super Eagles to perform.

Their most impressive recent showing came during the last edition in Ivory Coast, where they finished as runners-up.

However, Iwobi, who spent his formative years at Arsenal insists that the team is more hungry than ever.

He maintains that the squad is prepared to put in the necessary work to finally bring the trophy home from Moroccan soil.

“People normally get remembered for their accolades and as a team there’s no other better way to be remembered than winning something,” Iwobi told Kelechi Anyikude.

“So we’re very ambitious and we’d like to make our name for ourselves and for our families. But we have to work hard and hopefully we’re able to achieve something special. Thank you very much.

The Super Eagles will kick off their 2026 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a game against Tanzania on Tuesday.

They will be hoping to get all three points from the game and put themselves in a good position to qualify for the knockout rounds.
