Liverpool’s season has taken a sharp and unexpected turn, and it has pushed the club’s top officials into difficult conversations.

Reports suggest that the board is already weighing up possible replacements for Arne Slot as the team continues to fall apart on the pitch.

The mood around Anfield has shifted from early optimism to deep concern. Despite spending over £450 million on new players, Liverpool have produced some of their worst performances in decades.

The team has lost six of their opening 12 Premier League games and recently suffered a shocking 4-1 defeat at home to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

For a club known for its intensity and winning mentality, the collapse has been hard for fans to accept.

The 4-1 loss was not just another bad night, it signaled Liverpool’s ninth defeat in their last 12 matches across all competitions, a run they have not experienced since the 1953/54 season.

Anfield, usually filled with energy and belief, echoed with boos. Some supporters even walked out long before the final whistle, a clear sign that patience is running out.

Last weekend’s 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest only added to the tension. Liverpool have now lost three straight matches and conceded 10 goals in that short spell. Instead of challenging at the top, the reigning champions sit 12th in the Premier League table. a position that would have been unimaginable a few months ago.

Inside the boardroom, the feeling is that the team has lost its direction. The club believes Slot has not been able to turn heavy investment into results or build a clear identity on the pitch.

The project looks unsure, the players look disconnected, and the pressure on the manager continues to rise.

Because of this, the club is already looking at three possible replacements, each with a very different profile.

Jurgen Klopp is the most eye-catching name. The former Liverpool manager, who delivered the Premier League, Champions League, and countless unforgettable nights, remains a beloved figure.

A return would electrify the fanbase, even though it comes with emotional weight and big expectations.

Andoni Iraola is another option. The former Bournemouth manager is respected for his energetic, modern style of football. He is known for building structured, high-pressing teams and getting the best out of players even when resources are limited. For a club desperate for clarity and identity, Iraola represents stability and a fresh approach.

Then there is Ange Postecoglou, a manager with a strong attacking philosophy and a fearless style of play. Although his time at Tottenham and Nottingham Forest had mixed results, he remains admired for his courage with the ball and his commitment to entertaining football.

According to reports, Liverpool see these three as coaches who can revive the spirit of the team in different ways,  Klopp with his emotional connection, Iraola with his structure, and Postecoglou with his attacking ideas.
