Competition: League One
Market: Wycombe Wanderers win
Odds: 8/5 @ Pribet
Looking to extend on their recent purple patch, Wycombe will travel to Burslem when they meet Port Vale on Saturday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, while Port Vale might have only made their League One return this season, Darren Moore’s men have a major battle on their hands in the race to extend on their third-tier status this time around. Last seen in EFL Trophy action earlier in the week suffering penalty shootout heartbreak at home against Fleetwood, the former Sheffield Wednesday boss finds his downbeat squad pencilled in as a landslide relegation contender. Getting Saturday’s showdown underway sat with just their goal difference keeping them off the foot of the League One table, the Valiants look set for what will be another stern examination here. Putting in another worrying performance last weekend as they fell to a 4-0 drumming away at Bolton, Port Vale have lost four of their previous five appearances across all competitions. Signing off October with a 3-0 defeat at home against Stockport, Saturday’s hosts have also lost all of their previous three consecutive League One showdowns by an aggregate score of 8-0. It should also be highlighted, Moore’s side have shipped seven goals in their back-to-back defeats over the past week.
As for the visitors, although Wycombe might still be scrapping it out in the bottom-half of the League One standings, the Chairboys are enjoying what has become a recent purple patch. Last seen earlier in the week storming their way to a stellar 3-0 victory away at Gillingham, Michael Duff’s men will be dreaming of a repeat display here. Making a major statement last weekend as they clinched a 4-1 romp at home against Leyton Orient, the former Cheltenham boss has seen his high-flying squad win all of their previous three consecutive appearances across all competitions by an aggregate score of 9-1. Extending on their FA Cup adventure earlier in the month as they opened November with a 2-0 win against Plymouth, Wycombe find the mood in their camp at a red-hot high. In fact, despite their EFL Cup exit at the hands of Premier League outfit Fulham last month, Saturday’s guests have won all of their other four matchups across all fronts. It should also be noted, Wycombe have not suffered a single defeat from any of their previous nine outings within 90 minutes.
