President Bola Tinubu has received a security briefing from Lt.-Gen. Wahidi Shaibu, the new Chief of Army Staff, at the State House in Abuja. Shaibu was recently appointed by the president to lead the army.

The meeting held on Tuesday focused on ongoing military operations across the country, especially in the north-west and north-east, where troops are engaged in counter-insurgency and anti-banditry operations.

Speaking after the briefing, Shaibu said the army would intensify efforts to curb insecurity and ensure stability across communities.

“We are reviewing our strategies and adjusting deployments to achieve better results,” he said.

He also pledged loyalty to the constitution and vowed that the army under his command would prioritise professionalism and discipline.

Tinubu has repeatedly said security remains a top priority of his administration, promising that Nigeria “must move from fear to peace”.
