Manchester United’s Fridolina Rolfo said that her team-mates are looking to exact revenge from their first Women’s Super League loss in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Red Devils were beaten 1-0 by Aston Villa at the weekend, with Miri Taylor’s first-half strike leaving United four points adrift of league leaders and rivals Manchester City.

Indeed, it was their first league defeat against the Villans in 10 WSL matches, but their attention has swiftly turned to their European campaign, where they have started strongly.

In what is their first appearance in the competition, Marc Skinner’s team are one of just five sides to have won both their league phase matches so far in 2025-26.

United downed Valerenga in their opening-round fixture before beating Atletico Madrid 1-0 away from home, despite Dominique Janssen being sent off in the 41st minute.

Rolfo was the match-winner at Centro Deportivo Wanda Alcala de Henares, and said the squad was full of confidence ahead of their upcoming clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

“I think it’s a positive feeling,” she said. “We were, of course, not happy with the loss the other day, so we feel [we want] a bit of revenge.

“We’ve been going through everything and I think that we all have energy, and we are happy with playing a game so soon.

“It feels like the group are super excited and, of course, we’re looking forward to playing at Old Trafford. It’s a huge game, and we can’t wait to play.”

Rolfo is hugely experienced when it comes to European football, having also played in the Champions League with Linkoping, Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich.

The Sweden international joined United from Barcelona in the summer, revealing that European nights in Manchester were one of the big factors in her signing for the club.

“I do love playing the Champions League, of course. It’s something unique and something you want to be a part of.

“It’s one of the biggest reasons why I joined this club, because I do want to play those big games with such a big club.

“I do want to play in the Champions League and continue helping this team to reach even longer in this tournament, so we can go really far.

“It’s an honour to play it and I hope I can bring my qualities to the team.”

Another subplot surrounding the match is Mary Earps’ return to Old Trafford.

Earps made 102 appearances for United in the WSL, keeping 46 clean sheets in those matches, while also helping the club to FA Cup glory in 2023-24.

However, her return has been overshadowed following her criticism of England boss Sarina Wiegman and Hannah Hampton in her recently released autobiography.

Skinner, who knows Earps well after managing her at United for three years, said: “Me and Mary have always had a good relationship. So I’ll say nothing but good things.

“I’ve not read the book. I don’t know anything about it – I’m hearing snippets, of course I am.

“I’m always one of those [who thinks] you have to be careful with what you say, but Mary believes in it. So that’s her truth, she has to speak it.

“From our perspective, we’ll welcome her as somebody that is on the opponents’ team in this game, but also always pay tribute to what she did when she was here.

“I know Mary’s a good person, so I look forward to the challenge of trying to beat her and her team on this Wednesday night.”
