West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola is determined to build on their victory against Newcastle United when they face Burnley on Saturday.

The Hammers snapped their six-game winless run with a 3-1 win against the Magpies on Sunday, moving them three points behind Burnley in 18th.

Areola made three saves in the match, including a crucial stop to deny Anthony Gordon’s effort at 1-1.

With another fixture at the London Stadium up next, Areola wants to continue to repair the relationship with the fans with another win.

“It’s a good feeling, a good feeling for us, for the team, for the fans,” said Areola.

“What more can we ask for than just to win? And now we need to keep going like that.

“We have to use this win to try and do the same in the next one [against Burnley].

“We’re here, and we’ll fight until the end to reconnect with the fans. We felt it today as well.

“I’ve always said that we need them (the fans) to push us and to give us that strength to get far.

“They did their job, and I’m happy that we gave them that win.”

Burnley failed to continue their winning run in the league after they lost 2-0 to Arsenal at Turf Moor.

They could not register a single shot on target against the Gunners, although they did strike the woodwork late on in the match.

Despite the defeat, Josh Laurent believes Burnley can take plenty of lessons that will help them in the long run.

“It was a difficult game for us; we’re disappointed not to come out with anything,” said the midfielder.

“A lot to learn from, we showed a lot of fight and spirit at times. A lot to watch over and improve on.

“I would say every game’s a learning curve for us, a chance to develop. We give respect to them, they’re a good team and they showed why they’re top of the league, but we’ll continue in the right direction and keep competing.

“It’s a massive game next week [West Ham]. We’ll learn from this, take what we need to improve on.

“Take those positives and we’ll go into next week still confident, with a fighting spirit and togetherness that we always have.”

PLAYERS TO WATCH

West Ham – Callum Wilson

Callum Wilson only has more Premier League goals against West Ham (12) and Everton (eight) than he does against Burnley (seven), scoring six goals in his last four starts against the Clarets.

Wilson has also scored in five of his last seven starts against newly promoted teams (five goals).

Burnley – Quilindschy Hartman

Quilindschy Hartman has assisted in each of his last three away Premier League matches (four assists), with those four assists coming within his first five away appearances.

In Premier League history, only Lee Sharpe registered more assists in his first five away games (five).

MATCH PREDICTION: WEST HAM WIN

West Ham are unbeaten in their last six Premier League games against Burnley (W3 D3), having lost four of their previous five against the Clarets (W1).

The Hammers also have not lost any of their last 11 top-flight games against Burnley when they’ve scored at least once in the match (W8 D3), since a 2-1 loss at Turf Moor in February 2010.

The two sides with the worst shot differential when they’ve been drawing in Premier League games this season are Burnley (-54) and West Ham (-35), while the Clarets also have the worst difference when they have been losing (-25).

Burnley have won just two of their last 11 top-flight away games against West Ham (D2 L7) – 3-0 in March 2018 and 1-0 in July 2020.

A potential avenue to victory for Scott Parker’s side could be set pieces.

West Ham have faced the most shots from set pieces (excluding pens) in the Premier League this season (53), with over a quarter of the attempts they’ve faced coming from corners (26%, 37/145), also a league-high.

OPTA WIN PROBABILITY

West Ham – 47.9%

Draw – 26.0%

Burnley – 26.1%
