Championship table-toppers Coventry City extended their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 victory away at Portsmouth.

The visitors recorded their seventh win of the campaign, and their fifth in a row, as Brandon Thomas-Asante netted on either side of half-time to put the Sky Blues two goals to the good.

While Pompey reduced the arrears in the 96th minute through substitute Makenzie Kirk, Frank Lampard’s side held on to claim another three points.

Elsewhere, Millwall moved up to third after a 2-0 win over Stoke City at the Den.

Alex Neil’s side sealed their third consecutive Championship victory thanks to first-half goals from Femi Azeez and Tristan Crama.

Meanwhile, Bristol City compounded Southampton’s tricky start to the season with a 3-1 win at Ashton Gate.

Gerhard Struber’s side had to come from behind after the Saints opened the scoring on the half-hour mark through Adam Armstrong.

Yet, the hosts responded within three minutes as Anis Mehmeti restored parity, before a Scott Twine double after the break secured a hard-fought victory, with Bristol City jumping up to fourth.

At the MKM Stadium, Leicester City found themselves a goal down with six minutes, as Liam Millar broke the deadlock for Hull City, before Joe Gelhardt doubled their advantage in the 31st minute.

While Leicester clawed a goal back through Aaron Ramsey in the second half, Marti Cifuentes’ side were unable to fashion an equaliser, with the Tigers leapfrogging them into seventh.

Data Debrief: Thomas-Asante leads the way for clinical Coventry

Thomas-Asante’s brace means he has now contributed to goals in his last five games in the Championship (six goals, one assist), with the forward netting eight Championship goals – no player in the league has more.

The Sky Blues have now scored in nine of their 11 games; only Leicester (10) have scored goals in more matches in the Championship this term.
