Ruben Amorim stated “It’s always complicated with us” after Manchester United’s 2-1 win against Chelsea.

The Red Devils were given an early advantage when Robert Sanchez was shown a red card in the fifth minute.

It was Chelsea’s earliest ever red card in the Premier League, while it was the third-earliest red shown to a goalkeeper from the start of a game in the competition.

Bruno Fernandes scored his 100th goal for the club as he and Casemiro then gave United a two-goal advantage before the latter was shown a second yellow before the break to set up a nervy second half.

This was the first Premier League game to see both sides receive a red card in the first half since Chelsea (Cesar Azpilicueta) v Crystal Palace (Damien Delaney) in October 2014.

Amorim was proud of the way his team fought in what was their second league win of the season, holding on after Trevoh Chalobah’s late goal, but admitted it should have been more straightforward.

“Every win, especially in this moment, is important, against a great opponent,” Amorim told BBC Sport.

“We started the game in the right way. Really aggressive. The red card helped us dominate the game, but we were already there.

“We scored two goals, and then we tried to complicate our game again. It’s always complicated with us. It should have been different this game.

“Our crowd, our fans are easy to please. If you give everything, they will be there. That is something our players need to understand. To have the crowd with us, we just need to run, to fight and tackle.

“With this win, we have to forget the good feeling of winning the game and get back to the urgency of feeling we need to win the next game.”
