The UK government, in partnership with UK charity Clean Herts Community (CHC) and TAG International, has launched an intensive sports and mentorship program for vulnerable youths in three Lagos State Local Government Areas: Ajeromi, Ikorodu, and Ifako Ijaiye.
The two-month initiative, running from September to November 2025, uses sports like boxing and football, combined with life skills training, to engage young people and help prevent crime.

The program is part of the UK Home Office’s wider Serious and Organised Crime (SOC) Prevent Programme in Nigeria.
Participants will engage in boxing and football coaching, alongside mentoring and life-skills training designed to build resilience, discipline, and positive opportunities.
Ajeromi – Boxing, Ikorodu – Boxing and Football and Ifako Ijaiye – Boxing.
The initiative was officially launched at EliteBox Gym on 15 September, with training sessions now underway.
Speaking at the launch, British Deputy High Commissioner Simon Field said:
“The UK is proud to support this initiative alongside CHC and TAG International. This programme demonstrates how international and local partnerships can provide young Nigerians with the tools, skills, and opportunities to thrive, and build communities resilient against crime.”
Nikita Joshua, Director of CHC, added, “We are excited to return to Lagos after our successful pop-up earlier this year. Sport has the power to transform lives, instil discipline, and provide young people with alternatives to crime. This programme is about showing young people that hard work and resilience can open brighter futures.”
From the local perspective, Adekunle Lamikanra, Coordinator of Ikorodu Crime Prevention Partnership (CPP), stressed the long-term impact.
“This programme creates positive pathways for our young people by harnessing the power of sport.
Football and boxing build resilience and discipline, while mentoring helps them resist negative influences such as cultism and cybercrime. With consistent support, initiatives like this can safeguard our youth and build a better future for all.”
