Sabrina Carpenter’s reaction on Sunday to winning Best Album at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) has gone viral on social media.

Newsweek reached out to Carpenter’s representative via email for comment on Monday.

Why It Matters

The 26-year-old first got her start on the Disney Channel, starring in shows like Girl Meets World and appearing in Phineas and Ferb and Austin & Ally. She released several albums with Disney-owned label Hollywood Records before signing with Island Records in 2021.

In 2023 and 2024, Carpenter appeared as Taylor Swift’s supporting act during many shows on the 35-year-old’s wildly popular “Eras Tour.” Last month, the two-time Grammy Award winner released her latest album Man’s Best Friend, and has had mega hits over the years including: “Manchild,” “Nonsense,” “Please, Please, Please” and “Espresso.”

What To Know

The VMAs, hosted by LL Cool J, took place on September 7 at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.

Carpenter won Best Album for Short n’ Sweet, beating out other artists in the category like Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, Morgan Wallen and The Weeknd.

Following her win, Carpenter fan account @SCdailyupdates posted a video of the pop star’s reaction to X.

In the clip, the Pennsylvania native can be seen cheering for her fellow nominees. When her name is called as the winner, her jaw drops and she hugs those sitting next to her. She then waves to the audience and proceeds to walk to the stage.

“Sabrina Carpenter’s reaction to winning ‘Best Album’ at the 2025 #VMAs,” the caption read.

At the time of publication, @SCdailyupdates’ post racked up 1 million views and 46,000 likes.

What People Are Saying

Carpenter’s Best Album acceptance speech in full: “Oh my goodness. There’s so many people here. Well thank you VMAs for this. This is my second Moon Man, which feels so crazy! I really don’t take for granted when you guys take the time out of your lives to listen to an album, and if I’m lucky enough that that is my album, I am so grateful, whether that be Short n’ Sweet, this album, or whether that be Man’s Best Friend, my new album, or whether it be one of my 29 before that.”

“I’m just the luckiest girl in the world, and I do want to say to my incredible cast and dancers and my queens on stage. And my queens on stage with me tonight. This world, as we all know, can be so full of criticism and discrimination and negativity. So, to get to be a part of something so often, more than not, that is something that can bring you light, make you smile, make you dance and make you feel like the world is your f***ing oyster, I am so grateful to do that.”

“So, thanks, everyone here. But most importantly, my fans are just, you’ve been there for me. So, thank you. And the last thing I’ll say is every artist here tonight that is nominated, that’s performing, that is just standing here looking amazing, you all mean so much to me and have inspired me so much, so thanks for letting me be in this room with you. I love you all very much.”

What Happens Next?

Carpenter’s “Short n’ Sweet Tour” began in September 2024 and concludes in November. She’s also scheduled to perform at Lollapalooza festivals in Argentina, Brazil and Chile in March 2026.
