The National Sports Commission (NSC) has cleared the air on lingering reports about unpaid entitlements to the Super Falcons, confirming that the team’s bonuses have been settled and that other promised rewards are in motion.
Speaking on Arise TV on Friday, NSC Director-General Bukola Olopade said all outstanding bonuses were paid before the Falcons’ final match against Morocco at the 2024 WAFCON. He added that he had personally spoken with captain Rasheedat Ajibade and officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to ensure everyone was “on the same page.”
While acknowledging that a handful of players might still be waiting for payments due to banking delays involving the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olopade stressed that the President’s pledge of a $100,000 reward would be honoured.
“The promise of Mr. President will be fulfilled,” he assured. “We are also working closely with the Minister of Works and Housing, alongside the Renewed Hope Housing Initiative, to ensure the team gets their houses as promised and in record time.”
Olopade reiterated that athlete welfare remains a priority for the NSC. “We don’t joke with the remuneration and welfare of athletes,” he said, expressing confidence that all pending matters would be resolved soon.
His comments follow Ajibade’s recent remarks suggesting that both bonuses and rewards were still “a work in progress.”
The NSC’s clarification aims to put the matter to rest and reassure fans that the nation’s champions will receive every promised benefit for their historic WAFCON triumph.
