Kaizer Chiefs squandered a 1-0 first half lead to eventually lose 2-1 to Eredivisie side Vitesse Arnhem on Tuesday night.

Reeve Frosler gave Amakhosi the lead in the 37th minute but an own goal by Dillan Solomons early in the second half brought Vitesse back into the game.

The home side then took the lead through Visser in what proved to be the match’s decisive goal in the 74th minute.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi started with both Frosler and Thabiso Monyane in defence with Aiden McCarthy and Inacio Miguel completing the back four.

Thabo Cele and Sibongiseni Mthethwa partnered in central midfield while Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Mduduzi Shabalala were handed creative roles alongside Mfundo Vilakazi.

New signing Flavio Silva started as a lone striker upfront as Nabi wanted to see what he can offer Chiefs in the new season.

With captain Yusuf Maart heading to Austria, Nabi handed the armband to Miguel to lead Chiefs against Vitesse.

This could be a hint enough that the former Petro de Luanda man will be the new skipper for the upcoming campaign.

Chiefs had a solid first half as they matched Vitesse pound for pound and ended up taking the lead through Frosler’s stunner.

However, the second half was met with wholesale changes by Nabi, and the decision backfired badly as Vitesse got their groove back.

Ultimately, Chiefs suffered the loss, and they will now have to go back to the drawing board ahead of their next game.
